After story time was over, a librarian brought a treasure box that was filled with different costumes. There were five or six boys and girls trying on the different costumes and playing in the room. The boys’ moms were in the room chatting with each other. My son, DJ, tried on the knight’s costume but he didn’t have the sword and shield that go with the armor. Two boys were holding the swords and the shields without the armor. They were play-fighting using the weapons. DJ and I were waiting patiently for his turn to use the swords. Even after 15 min, the boys didn’t stop play-fighting. I was about to ask the boys to let DJ have a turn with the sword for a while but I didn’t because the boys’ moms were present. I wished that the boys’ moms would say something to their sons about sharing. If their moms were not there, I would have asked the boys to play together. DJ eventually gave up and took off his costume. If an American mom was in a similar situation, I wonder what she would do to resolve the situation.

Of course, if a librarian were in the room, she might have said something to the boys. Also, DJ probably should’ve asked the boys if he could play with a sword. He was too shy to ask one of the boys.

読み聞かせが終わった後、ライブライアンがコスプレの衣装がいっぱい入った宝箱を教室に持ってきた。教室には５，６人の男の子女の子がいてコスプレで遊んでいた。男の子たちのお母さんもそこにいておしゃべりしていた。息子DJも騎士の衣装を着てみたが、騎士の衣装に合う剣と盾がみあたらなかった。男の子ふたりが衣装も着ずその剣と盾で戦っていた。そこでDJと私は辛抱強く剣と盾を使う順番を待っていた。が１５分経っても男の子たちは戦いをやめようとはしなかった。わたしは男の子たちに「DJと一緒に遊んでくれる？」って言おうかなと思ったが、その子たちのお母さんが部屋にいたので結局何も言わなかった。その男の子のママたちがDJに気づいて何か言ってくれるかなとは期待したが。もしママさんたちがいなかったら聞いていたと思う。DJも次第に諦めて騎士の衣装を脱いだ。アメリカ人のママさんが私と同じような状況に遭遇したらどう対処するかなと一瞬考えた。
もちろん、ライブラリアンがその場にいたら、DJに気が付いて男の子たちに何か一言言ってくれたかもしれない。またDJも自分で男の子たちに使わせてと聞くべきだったのかもしれない。恥ずかしくてできなかったようだが。

この度、キンドルで初めて本を出版しました

うちの家族の日常生活の出来事を日記風に英語で書いています。また、日常で使われている50個のイディオムを日記の中で紹介しています。出てきた文法などの説明もしてます。まずストーリーの英語の部分だけを読んで頂き、わからない単語が出て来ても文脈で理解する練習をしてください。日本語のサマリーもつけていますが、なるべく日本語に頼らないで理解する方が練習になります。英語で簡単な文章を読むのは楽しいと思えるように、またイディオムや英語表現が使われるコンテクストを認識し（＝インプット）それを適切な場面や状況で使うことができるように（＝アウトプット）また英語を英語で理解する英語脳を作る練習になるように、この本が少しでもお役に立てればと思います。興味のある方は一読してみてください。
